From the Civil War to our combustible present, acclaimed historian Carol Anderson reframes our continuing conversation about race, chronicling the powerful forces opposed to black progress in America.

As Ferguson, Missouri, erupted in August 2014, and media commentators across the ideological spectrum referred to the angry response of African Americans as “black rage,” historian Carol Anderson wrote a remarkable op-ed in The Washington Post suggesting that this was, instead, "white rage at work. With so much attention on the flames," she argued, "everyone had ignored the kindling."

Since 1865 and the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, every time African Americans have made advances towards full participation in our democracy, white reaction has fueled a deliberate and relentless rollback of their gains. The end of the Civil War and Reconstruction was greeted with the Black Codes and Jim Crow; the Supreme Court’s landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision was met with the shutting down of public schools throughout the South while taxpayer dollars financed segregated white private schools; the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 triggered a coded but powerful response, the so-called Southern Strategy and the War on Drugs that disenfranchised millions of African Americans while propelling presidents Nixon and Reagan into the White House, and then the election of America’s first black President, led to the expression of white rage that has been as relentless as it has been brutal.

Carefully linking these and other historical flashpoints when social progress for African Americans was countered by deliberate and cleverly crafted opposition, Anderson pulls back the veil that has long covered actions made in the name of protecting democracy, fiscal responsibility, or protection against fraud, rendering visible the long lineage of white rage. Compelling and dramatic in the unimpeachable history it relates, White Rage will add an important new dimension to the national conversation about race in America.

How about black rage, like the fact that blacks are 3x more likely to rape and 7x more likely to murder.

Johnny, I’m not even black, but a lover of mine is, so fuck you, you racist shit. Your words can literally cause someone’s death. Maybe visit some of Trevor Noah’s the Daily Show on Youtube or view the blacklivesmatter debates on /r/changemyview.

Blacks are just trying to defend themselves. Not that murder is wrong, but if whites weren’t constantly trying to attack them, they wouldn’t have to attack back. Also, as a scientist, you can’t just interpret data without coming to a conclusion on what caused it. No surprise that blacks given less education, less financial help, and less healthcare that some resort to desparate means to release themselves with rape. Also, even if many blacks are criminals, how much of the population of all races are serious criminals in general? You act like it’s 100% or even 10 in a 100, but believe me, it’s much less than that.

That’s just for murder and rape. How about the whites in power who use their unfair amount of power to push inequality in society that doesn’t just cause individual crimes, but crimes of desperation and hatred throughout society? Throughout hundreds, thousands and millions?

I thought Donald Trump was just a pathetic politician to pity and laugh at. Now after his response to the pandemic (See John Oliver’s coronavirus shows on Yourube) and his increased racism, he’s more of a disgusting serial killer and coward now.

Johnny. Open your eyes and turn off Fox. You'll feel a sense of relief and you'll immediately feel better.
When you read statistics remember that the numbers you quote tell you who was convicted of what, not who did what; and it turns out that blacks are much more likely to be incarcerated and convicted than white regardless of their guilt because the race bias that you and others exude.
By the way, I agree with Michael: fuck you for thinking that the color of your skin makes you better!!!

This is nonsense. The book itself is meant to stir up grievances and you all are playing into it.

It's time to stop playing the race card on either side. If POOR people need help, we help them, end of story.

We need to go to colorblindness, now!
